The Misunderstood God: The Lies Religion Tells About God by Darin Hufford.  Based on 1 Cor 13 without being preachy.  Really challenges our view on the character of God.  Everyone who has read this on my recommendation was floored.  Great for anyone faced with the “angry God”.

Samson and the Pirate Monks: Calling Men to Authentic Brotherhood by Nate Larkin.  Former preache who collapsed in s*x addiction.  Really pushes the need for men to walk with other men in recovery.  great for guys with that addiction.

Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell.  For the church refugee.  Shares his own journey, as a pastor, coping with the machine of church..

So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore by Wayne Jacobsn.  For the church refugee.

Authentic Relationships: Discover the Lost Art of “One Anothering” by Wayne Jacobsen (He Loves Me and So You Don’t Want to Go To Church Anymore…are also very good.  For the church refugee.

Walking with God: Talk to Him. Hear from Him. Really. By John Eldredge. I consider this a primer on learning how to recognize God in everyday life.  Very foundational without a preachy presentation.

Why I Stayed by Gayle Haggard. Women should read this book if their husband really messed things up.  Great story of forgiveness.  At times a bit whiney on how things went down with their church….and I understand that.

No Man is an Island by Thomas Merton.  Deep read from a monk.  I loved it but requires a higher reading level.

Healing the Masculine Soul by Gordon Dalbey.  Written before Wild at Heart and Elderdge was heavily influenced by him (and Dallas Willard).  Not a lot of new ground if you have read W@H and not as user-friendly as Eldredge.  More of a preacher/counselor perspective..

Why Men Hate Going to Church by David Murrow.  really pulls the curtain back on why “church” fails to connect with men.  It really opened my eyes.

Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer
