Episode 019 – Imperfectly Gifted

Beautifully Imperfect

Do you struggle with perfectionism? No? Not you? Ask someone close to you, like a spouse, if you are unsure. Then be willing, very willing and brave, to hear the truth.

Perfectionism is the death to our soul and poisons everyone around us; such as family and even in the workplace. Have you ever worked for someone with impossibly high and unreasonable expectations? Do you place unreasonable expectations on your wife and kids?  Do you hold yourself to a standard you rarely, if ever, can attain?

I recommend a great book by Brene Brown titled The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are.  That title is quite a mouthful but the book is an easy read. The author is an academic and researcher but the book is not dry-toast statistics.  She relates so many stories to her our own journey and I applaud her candor and courage.

This week’s podcasts pulls from some of the author’s thoughts and how they resonate with my own perfectionistic tendencies.  Tune in to the podacast and and tell your friends about the CounterPoint podcast.
