The Name

What is a Coun­ter­Point?  This word sur­fa­ced during a time of soli­tude and reflec­tion for The Follo­wer so, armed with only a gene­ral idea of the mea­ning, a dic­tio­nary was con­sul­ted.  What was dis­co­ve­red made so much sense at the heart level.  There are two natu­ral defi­ni­tions for CounterPoint:

• A Coun­ter­Point is any ele­ment that is jux­ta­po­sed and con­tras­ted with another, to show dif­fe­ren­ces when com­pa­red, or to set in contrast.

This rela­tes directly to a man’s call to stand in con­trast to the pre­vai­ling world view and lift up a stan­dard built on Truth, Honor, and Authen­ti­city.   Also, to see God in con­trast to their current faith tra­di­tion or expe­rience to truly know Him for more than simply the God of their religion.

• From the arena of music a Coun­ter­Point is the tech­ni­que of com­bi­ning two or more melo­dic lines in such a way that they esta­blish a har­mo­nic rela­tionship while retai­ning their linear individuality.

The indi­vi­dual melody lines of our indi­vi­dual lives are meant to be woven into something lar­ger and stron­ger and this only occurs when we walk the jour­ney together.  This is the very essence of Com­mu­nity and is sorely lac­king in our world today.  We each pos­sess indi­vi­dual per­so­na­lity traits, strengths and weak­nes­ses, but we are unde­niably stron­ger when joi­ned together with others.
